Hour Exchange La Plata, or HELP, the local time bank, will host a free introductory overview of time banking and a potluck on Tuesday at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 910 East Third Ave.
An introduction will take place at 6 p.m., followed by a potluck at 7 p.m. Participants will earn time credits for attending, bringing food to share and bringing new guests.

Rotary Club of Durango to meet
Dr. Shawn Collins, Foundations and Corporate Relations Officer for the Crow Canyon Archeological Center, will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.
Located near Cortez, the mission of the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center is to advance and share knowledge of the human experience through archaeological research, education programs and partnerships with Native Americans. Crow Canyon’s research focuses on the ancestral Puebloan occupation of the Mesa Verde region. Visitors are welcome.

Stars of TV show to present Jan. 28
The Four Corners Gem & Mineral Club will host Bob Ross and the Busse family from “The Prospectors” TV show on The Weather Channel at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at the clubhouse, which is located in the turquoise building next to Brookside Park.
Ross is one of the owners of the Bessie G Gold Mine in La Plata Canyon and the Busse family mine aquamarine crystals on Mount Antero. They will speak about mining and their experiences filming with The Weather Channel. Gold, aquamarine and other specimens will be for sale.
Soiree to benefit Mercy foundation
Sorrel Sky Gallery, 828 Main Ave., will host the fourth annual Snowdown Steampunk Soiree from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 31.
The event will feature mixology creations, champagne, food and dancing. Black tie and stempunk apparel are optional. All proceeds will benefit Mercy Health Foundation for the purchase of Mercy Regional Medical Cancer Center equipment. Tickets are $50.

Library to host Snowdown events
The Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., will offer these Snowdown events for children and families on Jan. 31:
Snowdown Preschool Dance Party will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, with kid-friendly dance music and surprises. Kids are welcome to wear comfortable costumes or just come as they are and decorate steampunk top hats. This event is open to all young children and their caregivers. Registration is not required.
The third annual Snowdown Bristlebot Races will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Kids and teens, ages 8-17, can build their own racing machines out of toothbrushes, batteries and the vibrator motors from cellphones. Then they can race their creations for prizes. Prizes and certificates will be awarded to the fastest and funniest bristlebots in two age categories: 8-11 and 12-17. Costumes are encouraged.
