A snowshoe workshop called “Winter Ecosystems and the Snowpack” will take place from 10 a.m. from noon Saturday at Andrews Lake.
The workshop is free for members, and $10 for nonmembers. Participants can bring their own snowshoes or rent them for $3. People will learn how animals use the snowpack to survive during the winter by digging and examining a snow pit and going on a nature walk to look for evidence of animal activity.

FLC committee to meet Monday
The Presidential Evaluation Committee of the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will hold a teleconference meeting at 11 a.m. Monday in the President’s Conference Room in Berndt Hall No. 2503 at FLC.
The committee will discuss procedures for conducting the annual president’s evaluation. An executive session may be convened for the purpose of considering the employment of the FLC president.

Cattlemen’s meeting to be held Monday
Julie Westendorff, La Plata County Commissioner, and Christi Zeller, executive director of the La Plata County Energy Council, will speak at the La Plata-Archuleta Cattlemen’s meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the Extension Building at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
Westendorff will speak to issues surrounding La Plata County including the county’s Comprehensive Plan and new regulations that will have an effect on the county. Zeller will address the new regulations that are being faced by land owners. Both ladies will be available to answer questions from the audience.
Fermented foods to be discussed
A fermented-foods class will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave.
The class will explore the health benefits of kimchi, kefir, sauerkraut and more. Participants will have the opportunity to taste some fermented foods as well as learn how to make their own. Sign-up is required.
