Botanical society to host docent training

The Durango Botanical Society announced training for the Docent Class of 2015.

Docents lead tours of the Library Demonstration Garden for groups of all ages, and they lead other educational activities that highlight appropriate water-wise horticultural practices in the Four Corners. Prospective docents are invited to attend either of two information and orientation sessions being offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 or Feb. 9 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave. Further training will take place March 4-5 and is offered free of charge.

Bayfield library to host ‘Love Your Library’

The Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, will host a “Love Your Library” celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 8.

The event will feature live music from Bayfield Middle School and Bayfield High School students. There also will be free food, Valentine-making, a photo booth and other activities for all ages. The event also will launch the “Love Your Library” giving campaign. Community members will be given the chance to be recognized for giving opportunities that support the library’s new Media Room, the outdoor paving project and other library projects. Also, throughout February, patrons can purchase paper hearts for $1, with proceeds benefiting the library collection.

La Plata youths to host ‘Unchain My HeART’

La Plata Youth Services and Open Shutter Gallery will host an opening night event for “Unchain My HeART,” a multimedia exhibit of youth art in La Plata County, from 4 to 8 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Red Room at Open Shutter Gallery, 735 Main Ave.

The event will feature a silent auction to raise funds for youth services programs and support the youth it serves. There also will be live music from Stillwater Foundation, hors d’oeuvres, and wine. This exhibit will run from Feb. 13 to March 4.
