Learn how to handle your food safely
A food handler’s safety training class will be held from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
This is a one-day course for food-service workers that covers the basic requirements for safe food handling and will include these topics: preventing food-borne illness, food-temperature control, personal hygiene, preventing cross contamination, preparing/serving food safely, cleaning and sanitizing.
The cost is $30 per person. Attendees will receive a Food Safety Works manual and a Food Safety Works wallet card.

Daybreak Rotary Club to host Bill Tarpley

The Garden Club of Durango will host CSU Extension Agent Darrin Parmenter at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the La Plata County Fairground Extension Building, 2500 Main Ave.

Have ‘Pie and Coffee’ with our candidates
“Pie and Coffee with the City Council Candidates” will take place at 6 p.m. March 16 in Westminster Hall of First Presbyterian Church, 1159 East Third Ave.
Citizens for Healthy Established Neighborhoods and the Boulevard Neighborhood Association are co-sponsoring a candidates meet-and-greet. The public is encouraged to attend this free social hour and forum in which candidates will introduce themselves and be available to answer questions and receive comments. Homemade pie and coffee will be served.
Home bakers can participate in a pie-baking contest in which attendees cast votes for People’s Choice Best Pie In Town. Contestants are asked to deliver pies to the church by 5:30 p.m.

Mercy Health cooks up Soup for the Soul
Mercy Health Foundation’s 11th annual Soup for the Soul will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. March 18 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
The event will benefit Hospice programs and services. All money raised at the event will go directly toward providing care in this community. Tickets are $60 per person and can be purchased at Mercy Health Foundation office, or call 764-2800.

Mancos Public Library, 211 W. First St. in Mancos, will host “Tax Time: Questions & Answers Session” from 10 a.m. to noon March 21.
