Community Connections, a local nonprofit, will be guest bartending from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at The Red Snapper, 144 East Ninth St.
All proceeds from their specialty drink called the C.C.I. will go directly to Community Connections. Funds will help provide services to babies, families, and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the community.
Home chore program available to seniors
The Durango/La Plata Senior Services’s Home Chore program is available to seniors age 60 and older.
The program is designed to help seniors stay in their home by helping with installation of grab bars, small repairs to make the home safer or accessible, safety assessments, periodic house cleaning, spring and fall yard cleanups and limited snow-shoveling help.

DUI enforcement to increase
The Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol and local law-enforcement agencies announce heightened DUI enforcement efforts through Wednesday.
St. Patrick’s Day celebrators are urged to designate a sober driver or plan on using alternative travel options. Law enforcement will noticeably increase the number of DUI patrols on roads.
The Heat Is On campaign runs through the year with 12 specific high-visibility, impaired-driving enforcement periods centered on national holidays and large public events. Enforcement periods can include sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and additional law enforcement on duty dedicated to impaired driving enforcement.

Bird walks to begin at 8 a.m.
The weekly bird walk organized by For the Birds will be held at 8 a.m. Wednesdays.
The walk is hosted by a variety of local nature organizations. Participants will meet at Rotary Park. The walks last about 1½ hours. People should bring binoculars. Walks are free, but donations to the hosting group are welcome. The bird walks are held at 8 a.m. during Daylight Savings Time and 9 a.m. otherwise.
Police chief to speak to Kiwanis Club
The Kiwanis Club of Durango will welcome Durango Police Chief Jim Spratlen as its guest at noon Thursday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
Guest are welcome. Lunch will be served.
Eclipse of the sun to be discussed
The Life-Long Learning Lecture Series at Fort Lewis College will present “The Great Celestial Cover Up?” at 7 p.m. Thursday in Noble Hall, Room 130 at FLC.
Gary Rottman will explain further details about how an eclipse occurs and give a historical view of eclipses and their impact, as well as preview an eclipse in the area to occur on Aug. 21, 2017.
