Tickets are available for the La Plata-Archuleta Cattlemen’s Banquet and Ball at Basin Co-op in Durango, Wells Fargo Bank in Ignacio, Valley Feeds in Gem Village and Goodman’s Department Store in Pagosa Springs.
The banquet and ball will be held April 18 at the Sky Ute Event Center in Ignacio.
Play therapist, coach gives free parent talks
Liza Tregillus, play therapist and parent coach, will offer these free parent talks Thursday:
Kinship, a support group for grandparents or others who are parenting a child because of the death of a parent or loss of parental rights, will meet from 12:45 to 2 p.m. at the Family Center of Durango, 129 E. 32nd St.
“Parenting Teens after Divorce” will take place at 5:30 p.m. at La Plata Youth Services, 2203 North Main Ave., in the A-frame building across from Durango High School.
Marvel Grange shines a light on Hesperus
Marvel Grange will host its second annual Spotlight on Our Community from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the grange, 217 County Road 133, Hesperus.
Local organizations and crafters will have displays set up for viewing and information. The grange will have lunch items available for sale.
Get to know your ‘Hollywood Rockies’
The Animas Museum will host a presentation by Larry Jensen, author of Hollywood’s Railroads, Volume 3, Narrow Gauge Country, at 1 p.m. Saturday at the museum, 3065 West Second Ave.
From the early days of movie making through the era when Durango was known as “Hollywood of the Rockies,” the scenic railroad along the Animas River has starred in many films. Jensen will speak about his research and tell his favorite stories.

Independent Lens on ‘The Homestretch’
Rocky Mountain PBS will preview a free community screening of the Independent Lens film “The Homestretch” at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
The film will air nationally on PBS on April 13. The film follows three homeless teenagers battling terrible odds to graduate from high school in Chicago.
After the film, Jennifer Turner of La Plata Youth Services and other local nonprofit leaders will brainstorm paths for getting the missing resources that are needed to support local teens needing a roof or family of their own.

Commissioners begin ‘On the Road’ series
The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is beginning this year’s series of “On the Road” meetings and invites the public to join them in a conversation about issues of interest or concern regarding La Plata County and its neighborhoods.
The next community meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., in Ignacio.

Home Chore program available to seniors
The Durango/La Plata Senior Services’ Home Chore program is available to seniors age 60 and older.
The program is designed to help seniors stay in their home by helping with installation of grab bars, small repairs to make the home safer or accessible, safety assessments, periodic house cleaning, spring and fall yard cleanups and limited snow-shoveling help.
