FireWise of Southwest Colorado is offering a rebate on the rental of a wood chipper to reduce overgrown wooded areas on private property.
The offer, which begins Wednesday, is open to residents of La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma, San Juan and Dolores counties. The program ends Oct. 30 or when funds run out.
The program reimburses the lesser of $100 a day or 50 percent of the chipper rental or the work of a contractor.

FLC trustees look at investment policy
The Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will conduct a special meeting by teleconference at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the President’s Conference Room, Berndt Hall 2503, FLC for the purpose of reviewing the proposed investment policy.

Program aims to help you with finances
Colorado State University Extension will offer “Legally Secure Your Financial Future,” a program designed to help people evaluate and organize all their legal affairs.
This program consists of three sessions:
The first session will cover the important papers that people need and how long they should keep them.
The second session will be presented by a physician to discuss advance directives and medical power of attorney.
The final session will be led by an attorney specializing in estate planning to help answer questions about wills, trusts, etc.
The series will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 6, 9 and 13 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave. The cost is $70 for all of the classes or $35 per individual session. Pre-registration is required by noon Friday.

Nature’s healing power focus of talk
The Life-Long Learning Lecture Series at Fort Lewis College will present “Health, Helping, and Healing: What’s Nature Got To Do With It?” at 7 p.m. Thursday in Noble Hall, Room 130.
In this talk, Lee Frazer will examine some of the emerging research that documents the health benefits of a stronger personal connection with nature and also will consider the implications for a variety of social trends and settings. People also will be invited to reflect on their own anecdotal evidence for the healing properties of nature, including experiences they may have had as a child or in their adult life.
