The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking interested members of the community to apply for vacancies on the Lodging Tax Panel.
This panel administers the tourism fund to advertise and market tourism in La Plata County. Members of the panel serve three-year terms and must work within the tourism industry in the municipalities of Bayfield or Ignacio, or unincorporated areas from which the lodging tax is collected. All positions are voluntary.

Veterans service officer to hold office hours
The La Plata County Veterans service officer, Richard Schleeter, will hold office hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month beginning April 14 at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave. in Ignacio.
This office time has been set up for veterans to meet with the county veterans service officer and learn about their veterans benefits. Appointments can be made by calling 759-0117, but walk-ins will be welcome.
The main objective of the Veterans Service Office is to provide prevention, protection, advocacy and support services to veterans and their families so they can maximize their quality of life, well-being and potential. The office provides information and assistance to veterans and their families.
Spence to address the Bayfield Chamber
The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon Thursday at Bayfield High School, with lunch catered by BHS culinary students.
Nick Spence of The Marketing Department will present a discussion on marketing for small business.

Republican Women to meet April 21
Southwest Republican Women will host Rebekah Brown of Heritage Action at their luncheon at noon April 21 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
Brown’s presentation is titled “How Do You Make DC Listen?” Lunch is $16 for members and $20 for guests.

Mercy CEO to talk to High Noon Rotary
The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
Tom Gessel, the CEO of Mercy Regional Medical Center, will give an update on the hospital. The cost for lunch is $15.
Opinions sought on Medicaid, health care
The Southwest Center for Independence, a local nonprofit that helps people with disabilities, Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition and Rocky Mountain Health Plans will meet with community members from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16 at 3473 Main Ave., No. 23.
The groups want to know what people think about their health care and about their Medicaid services. Light refreshments will be provided.
