Native Roots Garden Center will host a free class on Landscape Design Concepts at noon Saturday at 26266 U.S. Highway 160.
Participants will learn the basics of landscape design, including site planning, grading and installation. The class will last about two hours.

Animas Museum to honor retiree
The Animas Museum will host a “Hail and Farewell” for Jan Postler, the museum’s curator of collections, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at 3065 West Second Ave.
Postler has been at the museum since 1996 and will retire May 1. The La Plata County Historical Society board of directors has established the “Jan Postler Collections Care Fund” for donations in honor of Postler’s legacy at the Animas Museum. Donations to the fund may be made by checks payable to LPCHS (“collections care” in the memo field).

Kline will discuss Phase 1 water
La Plata West Water Authority will host a neighborhood discussion meeting for the people of Kline regarding Phase 1 of a water-delivery system at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at Fort Lewis Mesa Elementary School, 11274 La Plata Highway (Colorado Highway 140), Hesperus.
This phase is the foundation for all of the future phases, and without it, the future phases will not happen. Participants will hear the particulars, get the facts and catch up with neighbors.
County seniors need your assistance
La Plata County Senior Services is seeking volunteers to help seniors through their Part D Prescription Drug Plan open-enrollment procedure.
Volunteer training will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 13 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave. Volunteers also are needed at the Pine River Senior Center in Bayfield and the Ignacio Senior Center.
