Because of an unforeseen circumstance, La Plata County Humane Society has canceled the annual meeting scheduled Saturday.
The meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon July 25 in the Sunlight Community Room at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
Managers can learn to empower workers
The Durango Area Human Resource Managers will offer a workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Horse Empower Arena, 670 Cole Ranch Road, called “Power On: Tools to Empower Your Team,” with Kim Hardesty from Horse Empower.
The workshop will illustrate group dynamics, and participants will learn tools for better communication, relationship building, team management and conflict resolution.
The cost is $45 for members and $75 for nonmembers. Space is limited. To RSVP, email [email protected].
High Noon Rotary to present award
The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
The cost for lunch is $15. The Durango Officer of the Year Award will be presented.
Horse center to teach basics of gardening
Medicine Horse Center, where horses assist people with learning opportunities and therapy, will host a variety of events and programs in the coming months.
“Plant the Garden!” will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 16 at the Durango Medicine Horse location.
People will learn about the basics of gardening and composting, while helping plant the garden beds. There is a $25 requested donation. Families are welcome.
Medicine Horse Center is a Colorado Charity based 501c(3) organization that has supported the community for 15 years.

Mulch Mania offers unlimited loads
The city of Durango will host Mulch Mania, a free mulch giveaway, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 15 and May 16.
Free mulch can be picked up at the old Van Dal landfill, about three-quarters of a mile past the end of Tech Center Drive, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days.
City equipment will be on-site to load large quantities of mulch.
This event is free and open to the public. There is no limit on the number of loads per resident.
