The Grief Center of Southwest Colorado announces its summer bereavement services for individuals and families impacted by the death of a loved one.
Individual and group therapy are available, regardless of relationship to the deceased or manner of death.
Special programming for children and teens is currently being scheduled.

AARP chapter to meet Tuesday
The Durango AARP Chapter No. 1243 will meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.
This will be the last meeting for the summer. However, the volunteer commitments will continue with the USDA Commodities Distribution, the Manna Soup Kitchen each month. Volunteer commitments will also continue at the Durango Food Bank bin at the senior center. People are asked to bring cans of food for the Food Bank bin. All seniors are invited.

Medicinal plant walk to be held Wednesday
Herbalist Marija Helt will lead a medicinal plant walk along the Animas River Trail from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Participants should meet at Memorial Park parking lot where East Third Avenue meets 29th Street in Durango. There is a $15 suggested donation.

Hear free lectures about health
The Seventh-day Adventist Church will sponsor free lectures on the “Secret to Health” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
“Modern Medication: Safety and Efficacy” will be discussed Tuesday; “Disease Prevention and Reversal” on Thursday; and “Food Additives and Alteration: Their Impact on Health” on Friday. Participants will discover ancient secrets to health with Martin Klein, RN, and Janelle Klein, ARNP, from Klondike Mountain Health Retreat.
Independent Living Council to meet
Colorado Statewide Independent Living Council will take public comment from 1 to 1:20 p.m. Wednesday at the Homewood Suites, 15 Girard St.
The council is a 15-member, governor-appointed council that writes the state plan on Independent Living every three years; it also monitors that plan between the rewritings. The council listens and makes notes – based on public comments throughout the state – on what resources that people with disabilities in Colorado need to live in the community.

Trails 2000 to host trail work Wednesday
Trails 2000 will host a public trail-work day from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dalla Mountain Park.
No experience is necessary. Trails 2000 will provide the tools, gloves, safety and instructional tool talk, water and snacks. Volunteers should wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, closed-toe shoes, a sun hat, sunscreen and bring a water bottle and rain jacket.

Tibetan water focus of club meeting
Daybreak Rotarian Eddie Cheung will speak to the Daybreak Rotary Club at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
Cheung has devoted resources and time during the past three years to developing safe-water projects for families in Tibet with the Tibetan Village Project. He has helped complete two water projects. Another project, scheduled for this year, will provide water for a Tibetan farming village and rebuild a water reservoir for 200 farming families. He will share stories of this work. The public is welcome.

Rotary Club looks at population issues
Dr. Richard Grossman will speak about the Rotary Action Group working on world population and development issues to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.
Grossman will tell why he became concerned with human population issues. While mostly retired, he has practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Durango since 1976. He writes a column for The Durango Herald titled “Population Matters!” and is a member of the Pine River Valley Centennial Rotary in Bayfield. Visitors are welcome.
