The 2015 food safety training required for Colorado cottage food and egg producers will take place from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Archuleta County Extension Office, 344 U.S. Highway 84, Pagosa Springs.
This course will cover the requirements for cottage food as a business, including topics such as food safety, safe food-handling, cross-contamination and cross-contact of food allergens; temperature control for safe food preparation, storage, transport and sales, ingredient-labeling and disclaimer requirements. The business specifics and current expectations for selling specific food items produced in a home kitchen and for the selling of backyard eggs will be covered.
The cost is $30 per person. Attendees will receive a food certificate. Preregistration is required no later than 5 p.m. Friday.

FLC student engineers will speak to Rotary Club
The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

Durango reschedules free Mulch Mania weekend
The city of Durango has rescheduled Mulch Mania, a free mulch weekend, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 29-30 at the old Van Dal landfill, about three-quarters of a mile past the end of Tech Center Drive.
City equipment will be on-site to load large quantities of mulch. The event is free and open to the public with no limit on the number of loads per resident.

City tries to get at root of aphids, insects problem
The city of Durango Parks and Recreation will perform root-zone ground injections on about 150 American Elm trees in the public right-of-way and city parks.
The root-zone injections will be performed by contracted service Woodchuck Tree Service to target the insect European Elm scale and leaf roller aphids. The applications will begin Tuesday and will proceed through spring.

FLC Board of Trustees to meet May 29
The Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College will conduct a public meeting at 8:30 a.m. May 29 in the Vallecito Room in the Student Union.
An executive session may be convened for purposes of considering the employment of the FLC president and for purposes of receiving legal advice concerning specific claims.
