The Friends of the Pine River Valley Public Library will hold its annual Book Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 6 in the Community Room of the Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center in Bayfield.
Take class by AARP; be a defensive driver
A Smart Driver Safety class, defensive-driving class sponsored by the AARP Driver Safety Program, will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June 13 and 27 in the Pine Room at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
Registration will take place at 8:15 a.m. The class is a nationwide Department of Motor Vehicles accredited, defensive-driving program that highlights recognizing and compensating for naturally occurring, age-related changes. The certificate is good for three years. Auto-insurance discounts apply for drivers age 55 and older for the three years.
The cost for AARP members is $15 and $20 for nonmembers and includes all-class materials. Preregistration is not needed.
Meet a local author at Ignacio gathering
Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave., in collaboration with the Cortez and Telluride public libraries, will present authors Katrina Blair, Chuck Greaves and Andrew Gulliford at 6 p.m. June 16.
The evening will include readings and a question and answer segment.
These three authors are among the finalists for the Colorado Book Awards, presented by Colorado Humanities. The Colorado Book Awards is an annual program that celebrates the accomplishments of Colorado’s outstanding authors, editors, illustrators and photographers. The awards announcement will take place June 21 in Aspen.
Rotary Club to have lunch
The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
The cost for lunch is $15. Participants will hear an overview of the club’s mini-grant.
