Lori Smith Schell, founder and president of Empowered Energy, will offer a presentation to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.

Empowered Energy is an independent consulting firm providing economic analysis for four inter-related commodity markets: natural gas, electricity, renewable energy and emissions. Schell is a Certified Energy Risk Professional with more than 25 years of experience in the energy industry, including policy analysis work at the U.S. Department of Energy and Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Liby will address the Horsemen group

The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will meet at 7 p.m. June 11 at Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway.

Guests are encouraged to attend. The educational program will feature local farrier Chris Liby. He will discuss the hoof problems associated with laminitis and founder.

Daybreak Rotary Club to meet Wednesday

Chris Nelson, director of Animal Services at the La Plata County Humane Society, will provide an update on the animal shelter to the Durango Daybreak Rotary Club at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.

In addition to its core mission of sheltering animals, the humane society provides low-cost spay-and-neuter surgeries, vaccinations and microchipping. It is funded through grants, its thrift store and donations from the public.
