Four Corners Pet Expo to feature Dock Dogs
The Four Corners Pet Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
The event will feature Dock Dogs, an international canine aquatics competition, with up to 150 dogs competing.
Fifty vendors, including 12 animal rescues, will participate, offering products, information and advice to attendees. Olde Tymer’s Café, Kona Ice and Durango Brewing Co. will have refreshments for purchase.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado will draw a winner for its playhouse, built by Durango High School students, at 3 p.m. Saturday. Alpine Bank will collect pet food and supplies for its Pet Drive at the event. Admission is $5 for adults; children 12 and younger are free. People who bring a pet-food product will be admitted free. This event is produced by Four Corners Expos, a division of Ballantine Communications, Inc.

Parkinson’s group will meet Thursday
The Durango Parkinson’s Disease Education and Support Group meets from 1 to 2 p.m. the third Thursday of every month at First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive.
The group’s next meeting will be Thursday.

Horsemen president to address Rotary
Cathy Roberts, president of the Four Corners Back Country Horsemen, will speak to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.
The organization adopts and maintains selected trails on public lands and explores new trails on informal rides together. The Horsemen also teach and practice low-impact use of trails and camps and adopts and manages the historic “Farmer Cabin.” For other projects, the group assists the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management.

Learn more about different gardens
Patio and container gardens will be the next topic in a free series open to all at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Animas Valley Grange Hall, 7271 County Road 203 north of Durango.
This subject will be presented by John Wickman, owner of Native Roots Garden Center. Wickman has a degree in horticulture, and before opening Native Roots in 2004, he operated other businesses in growing native and perennial plants. This talk will be about preferred patio plants and container gardening.
The grange is sponsoring a series of informative talks by various local experts, and the meetings will continue once each month. Refreshments will be provided.
