Local First will host a Be Local Book coupon exchange at the Green Drinks meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave.

Participants are invited to bring their Be Local Coupon Books and trade unused coupons. Not only will this event provide an opportunity to use more coupons, but participants will be contributing to La Plata County’s sustainable, local economy. Green Drinks is a monthly informal networking event for people interested in sustainability issues.

Arts, crafts festival to be held Friday

The 38th annual Fun in the Sun Arts & Crafts Festival will take place from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Buckley Park at 12th Street and Main Avenue.

The fair will include wine barrel art, alpaca products, stone art, birdbaths, yard art, waterfalls, bath salts and scrubs, hot hands, clothing, paintings, pet items, Katchinas, amethyst mats, hair accessories, pottery, photography, steam punk hats, wood art, blankets, baby items, aromatherapy products, rocks and gemstones, and more.

Grange hall to host potluck picnic

The Animas Valley Grange will host a community potluck picnic at 4 p.m. Saturday at the grange, 7271 County Road 203.

People are asked to bring their own table service. People with a last name beginning with A to L should bring an appetizer and M to Z a dessert. Picnic fare and drinking glasses will be provided.

Farm stand to be open at FLC

The Old Fort Farm Stand will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday near the Student Union at Fort Lewis College.

The stand will offer spinach, mixed greens, arugula, curly kale, garlic scapes, radishes, walking onions, green onions, flat-leaf parsley, mint, cilantro, oregano, lemon thyme, pepper starts, grass-fed beef and local pork.

AARP driver-safety class canceled

The Smart Driver Safety class, a defensive-driving class sponsored by the AARP Driver Safety Program, to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave., has been canceled.


Water authority to host open house

The La Plata West Water Authority will host an open house for water subscription sign-ups from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Breen Community Building, 15300 Colorado Highway 140 in Breen.

This will be the last opportunity for area property owners to sign up for service in Phase 1 or get information about an unscheduled basis before the June 30 sign-up deadline.
