The Regional Housing Alliance of La Plata County offers a free monthly Homebuyer Education class.
The class is an eight-hour program designed to help participants buy and own a home. Topics will include: buyer readiness, budget/financial management, credit reports and scoring, mortgage lending, working with a real estate agent, homeowners insurance, home inspections, the closing process, home maintenance and foreclosure prevention.
The class is facilitated by the alliance with contributions from local professionals such as loan officers, real estate agents and insurance agents who teach participants about their specific field of expertise.

Summer fun planned at Mancos library
Mancos Public Library, 211 West First St., will offer these programs:
A plein-air painting demonstration with Mancos artist Deb Doty will take place at 6:30 p.m. July 30. Doty will demonstrate some of the basic skills and techniques for plein-air painting. The demonstration will take place outdoors on the library grounds. All ages are welcome.
A book sale will take place from 10 am. to 5 p.m. July 24 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 25. Book donations are being accepted at the library during regular library hours. A yard sale will also take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 25. Donations for the yard sale are being accepted July 23 and 24. The library is seeking items such as indoor or outdoor furniture, tools and yard equipment, sporting goods and outdoor gear. Both sales will benefit the library. “Intertercultural Adventures in Ecuador and Mali,” a slideshow and presentation with Anna Taft will take place at 7 p.m. July 9. This will be the fourth program in the library’s series “Life Is An Adventure.”

Planning Commission seeking alternate
The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill an alternate position on the Planning Commission.
The Planning Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the commissioners with respect to land-use planning. The commission meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of each month to consider land-use issues, and also meets on the first Thursday of each month to work on updates to the Comprehensive Plan. Terms are for three years. This position is advisory only, and it is not monetarily compensated.

Durango Rotarians welcome a visitor
Clyde Church, outgoing governor of Rotary District 5470, will welcome incoming District Gov. Bob Delavan to the Rotary Club of Durango at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.
Rotary District 5470 encompasses central and southern areas of the state with more than 60 clubs. Church is a member of the Rotary Club of Durango and Delevan is from the Grand Junction Horizon Sunrise Rotary Club. Visitors are welcome.

The Durango High School Class of 1970 is looking for classmates.
