Durango Nature Studies will host a Full Moon Hike under the hunter’s moon from 8 to 10 p.m. Thursday at Sale Barn trailhead.
The hike is free for members and $10 for nonmembers. Participants will learn about natural history, nocturnal animals, local landforms and moon facts and legends.

Saddle-fitting talk coming to fairgrounds
The Four Corners Back Country Horsemen will meet at 7 p.m. July 9 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave.
Guests are encouraged to attend. This month’s presentation will take place in the pavilion at 7:30 p.m. with a saddle-fitting demonstration by Kristi Sweney. Sweney will show how horses with sore backs, or a “downhill” conformation, can have their saddles shimmed for a better fit. She will have Cashel saddles on hand for the fitting demonstration.

Learn the basics of fishing July 13
A “Fishing for Dummies” presentation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. July 13 at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave.
Participants will learn the basics of getting started, including what’s needed in a tackle box, what fish are in local streams and lakes, how to get a fishing license and more.
Participants should bring a fishing pole if they have one.

Run, walk in Pagosa to benefit nonprofit
The Star Spangled Shuffle will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot opposite the Town Hall on Hot Springs Boulevard in downtown Pagosa Springs.
Registration will open at 7 a.m. This is a non-competitive fun run and walk of 3K and 5K.
All ages and abilities are welcome and are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.
Finishers will receive a medal. There will be prizes for costumes.
Before the race there will be coffee and star-shaped cookies. Clif bars and drinks will be available at the finish line.
Proceeds from the event will go to GECKO (Giving Every Child Knowledge of the Outdoors), a local charitable organization.
The cost is $15 for the 5K and $12 for the 3K. Kids 10 and younger are free.
The July 4 parade will take place after the race at 10 a.m. in the town center.

Grab local coupons at farmers market
Local First will celebrate the spirit of localism and entrepreneurship with a booth at the Durango Farmers Market on Saturday in the First National Bank parking lot, 259 W. Ninth St.
Community members will be given a free “grab bag” of coupons from the 2015 Be Local Book while supplies last. The coupons are from locally owned, independent businesses.
