A veterans breakfast will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday at the Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave.
The cost is $5 for veterans and $6 for non-veterans. Participants should use the entrance on East Ninth Street.
Dog-training classes offer certification
“Dog Training: Manners 2” will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at the Durango/La Plata County Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.
The cost is $20 for a four-week session.
Participants will learn how to take basic skills to the next level and/or begin training a therapy dog.
The class will focus on leash skills, coming when called, staying at a distance and more.
The dog will earn its American Kennel Club “Canine Good Citizen” certificate by the end of the class. To be a therapy dog, a dog must pass this test.
Before taking this class, the dog should have taken a basic manners class or have a good understanding of basic manners.

Planning Commission needs new members
The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is seeking applicants to fill an alternate position on the Planning Commission.
The Planning Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the county commissioners with respect to land-use planning.
The Planning Commission meets at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Thursdays of each month to consider land-use issues and also meets on the first Thursday of each month to work on updates to the Comprehensive Plan.
Terms are for three years. This position is advisory only and is not monetarily compensated.

Learn chair yoga at senior center
The Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave., will offer chair yoga from 1:15 to 2 p.m. Wednesdays.
Participants will learn balance and mind-body connection.
The class will include stretching and chair exercises meant to relieve stress and encourage strength and harmony in the body and mind.
Yoga can help increase flexibility, prevent injury, increase energy levels and muscle tone and help with weight loss.
The entire class can be done from a chair or standing beside a chair for support. The cost for ongoing participation is $3 per class or $15 for a five-class punch pass.
