The Children’s Organ Transplant Association, a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for organ transplant-related expenses, with the volunteers of Liam’s Heart Club, announce Heartfest 2015, a fundraiser in honor of Durango-born and heart-transplant baby Liam Maddox.

Heartfest 2015 will take place Aug. 30 at the Ska Brewing Co. tasting room and patio, 200 Girard St. The event will feature music by The Assortment from 3 to 6 p.m. Food and beverages will be supplied by Ska, and a proportion of proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, in honor of Maddox. Each donation of $10 will be eligible for door prizes to be given away during the event.

Maddox’s heart failed in March 2014 when he was 5 months old, and he was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy. A heart transplant was performed at Seattle Children’s Hospital on April 19, 2014, and Maddox remained in Seattle during his recovery. Maddox and his parents, Paul Maddox and Jaqueline Wright, plan on returning to Durango to live in August.

Businesses, individuals and groups interested in helping or wanting more information should call Eileen Maddox at 903-4796. Donations may be mailed to the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, 2501 West COTA Drive, Bloomington, Indiana, 47403. Checks or money orders should be made payable to COTA, with “In Honor of Liam M.” written on the memo line. Secure credit-card donations are also accepted at www. COTAforLiamM.com.
