The annual picnic for San Juan Mountains Association volunteers and members will take place Thursday at Junction Creek Group campground in Durango.

The social hour will start at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Awards will follow. Volunteers, members and their guests are invited.

August 30 fete celebrates workers

Thrive! Living Wage Coalition and Food Not Bombs will hold a Pre-Labor Day Potluck Picnic from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 30 at Santa Rita Park near the playground.

Mountain Top Pocket Pickers and DJ Code Star will provide the music. This free, family-friendly event will honor and celebrate workers, their families and a living wage. The event will feature games, refreshments and the opportunity for workers to tell their stories about the importance of being paid a living wage. People are invited to bring a dish to share, a chair and lawn games.

Ignacio library announces events

These events will take place at the Ignacio Community Library, 470 Goddard Ave.:

A “Latino Americans: 500 Years of History” kickoff party will take place at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 16. People will learn how Latino Americans have helped shape a rich and varied history and culture. The library will screen “Episode 1: Foreigners in Their Own Land” during the party. There will be food and live music provided by Los Mitotitos. For more information, call 563-9287.
