The Bayfield Marshal’s Office will conduct a Prescription Drug Take-Back Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Bayfield Marshal’s Office, 1199 Bayfield Parkway.
The Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means for residents to dispose of prescription drugs while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. The Bayfield Marshal’s Office cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps, only pills and patches. This service is free and anonymous.

Cultural Center closes gallery; no open date
The Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum and the gift shop, 77 County Road 517 in Ignacio, are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, but the permanent gallery is closed for repair until further notice.
The permanent gallery’s reopening date will be announced after the repairs are made.

Roots of radical Islam to be discussed at FLC
The Life-Long Learning Lecture Series at Fort Lewis College will present “Roots of Radical Islam” at 7 p.m. Thursday in Noble Hall, Room 130 at Fort Lewis College.
This presentation will explore reasons for the development of radical Islam, including the failed efforts to reform governments and modernize Islam in the 20th century. It will consider the involvement and influence of Western powers – before and after WWI, the creation of Israel, monarchs and dictators, and the U.S./Iraq wars. The talk will detail the recent rise of fundamental and extremist Islamic movements. The talk also will discuss the Islamic reformation that is presently occurring.

Realauction will host instructor-led individual auction training hourly from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday in the La Plata County Administration Building, 1101 East Second Ave.
People can drop-in on the hour for personal training.
Realauction also will host webinar training classes online every Friday in October. Attendance is by registration only. The webinar training will take place on these dates: From 11 a.m. to noon Friday; 3 to 4:30 p.m. October 23; and noon to 1 p.m. October 30.

2016 county budget ready for public view
The 2016 La Plata County Public Trustee Proposed Budget may be viewed by the public at the La Plata County Treasurer’s office at 1060 Main Ave. and at www.co.laplata.co.us/departments_officials/treasurer.
La Plata County Treasurer Allison Morrissey will hold a public meeting, and she will be available for public comments from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at the La Plata County Administration Building Main Board Room, 1101 East Second Ave. Any interested elector of the local government may file an objection to the proposed budget at any time prior to final adoption by commissioners.
