A sourdough bread class with Tim White will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Durango Natural Foods Coop, 575 East Eighth Ave.
Register by 8 p.m. Tuesday at the co-op; walk-ins will be welcome as space allows. The cost is $15 for co-op members and $17 for nonmembers
Participants will learn to make a sourdough bread with a fermented nondairy starter, and how to make a sourdough starter and keep it alive. White also will work with and discuss rye, a naturally low-gluten grain, often tolerated in sourdough by people sensitive to high-gluten foods. There will be bread samples, a take-home sourdough starter and recipes. People should bring a pint Mason jar for the take-home starter.

Angler’s group to meet Wednesday
The Five Rivers Trout Unlimited Chapter general meeting has been rescheduled to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Chavolo’s, 21382 U.S. Highway 160 West. This is a change from the original date of Nov. 18.
There will be food, drink and fellowship prior to the start of the meeting. Peter Butler of the Animas River Stakeholders Group will give a brief history of the group’s activities and successes in mine waste remediation and will bring participants up-to-date on the current situation and plan going forward, post-Gold King Mine spill. This will be an opportunity for members and supporters to gain valuable insight into the situation concerning our fishery, both in the Animas River as well as further upstream around Silverton, and to get questions answered.
Rotarians will focus on veterans affairs
The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.
The cost for lunch is $15.
Veterans affairs and honoring the armed forces will be discussed.
Genealogists to hold annual meeting
The Southwest Colorado Genealogical Society will hold its annual meeting at 10:30 a.m. Nov. 14 at the La Plata County Historical Society’s Animas Museum, 3065 West Second Ave.
After the business meeting and election of officers, Robert McDaniel will give a presentation on “The Identification, Care & Preservation of Your Family Photos.” McDaniel will discuss various types of photos, including daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes, and their care.

Dharma Center to host retreat
Katherine Barr will offer a daylong retreat, “The Heart is Always Present Waiting for Us to Tire of Our Narrative,” from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at Durango Dharma Center, 32nd Street and East Animas Road (County Road 250).
A lunch break will take place from noon to 1 p.m. Using the Rodney Smith quote that forms the title of the retreat, Barr will lead participants in an exploration and cultivation of the courage to be open and present. Through sitting and walking meditation, short Dharma talks and silence, participants will have the opportunity to relax, observe and allow with a beginner’s mind. This retreat is suitable for new and experienced meditation practitioners. Tea and snacks will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring a water bottle and lunch, if preferred.
