Stillwater Music will hold its annual Winter Wonder Bands concert and silent auction from noon to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the River Bend Ranch, two miles north of Durango at 27846 U.S. Highway 550.

There is a $5 suggested donation at the door; anyone 18 and younger can attend for free. This event will feature eight different bands, including a vocal ensemble made up of students from various Durango schools that participate in Stillwater’s after-school music program. Catering will be provided by the Yellow Carrot. All are welcome.

LPEA green chile lunch to benefit Salvation Army

La Plata Electric Association will host a “Stuff the Kettle,” a green chile lunch, to benefit the Salvation Army from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at 45 Stewart St.

No reservations are required. The event will feature a variety of green chile stews, tortillas, corn bread, desserts and a beverage, all for a donation to the Salvation Army of any amount (the suggested donation is $5).

The fundraising lunch is being held during the regular meeting of the LPEA Board of Directors. Board members will join the community effort and be available to speak with cooperative members.

Support is available for widows, widowers

Hospice of Mercy will offer a widow and widower support group for people who have experienced the loss of a spouse or partner.

The group will meet from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. the first and third Thursday of each month beginning Dec. 17 at the Durango/La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave.

High Noon Rotary Club to meet Thursday

The Durango High Noon Rotary Club will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

The cost for lunch is $15. Max and Jen Scholfield will address upcoming changes to the Social Security program.

Food collection at gallery to benefit food bank

Karyn Gabaldon Arts, 680 Main Ave., will collect nonperishable food and donations for the Durango Food Bank through Dec. 24.

People may register to win a free limited edition giclée of the Durango area by Gabaldon. The drawing will be held Dec. 24.

Local author open house scheduled for Bayfield

The Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive in Bayfield, will host a Local Author Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.

The library will host authors featured in the lobby display for an open mic, book sale and signing. Refreshments will be provided.

Ignacio library receives grant for space exhibit

The Ignacio Community Library announces that it is the latest recipient of the American Library Association’s STAR_Net: Explore grant.

The library will host the exhibit “Explore Space: Our Solar System and Beyond.” The library was one of 14 libraries nationwide to be awarded the exhibit.
