The Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, will present “Breaking up with Sugar” from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Fran Sutherlin will explain how sugar affects the body and the three steps to breaking up with sugar so people can feel better, improve energy and create an environment for optimal health by reducing inflammation in the body.

The workshop will include healthy snacks that can naturally curb sweet cravings, like fruit with nuts and cheese.

Participants also will learn how to make their own naturally sweet chocolate ice cream using frozen bananas as a base. This course will be followed by a second workshop, “Fat: The New Skinny,” on Feb. 2, which will detail new recommendations on dietary fats.

DUI enforcement increased for holiday

The Colorado Department of Transportation is teaming up with Colorado State Patrol troops and local law enforcement agencies for 2015’s final The Heat Is On DUI enforcement period, running from Wednesday until Monday.

People who are hosting a party or other New Year’s gathering are encouraged to consider these tips to help prevent impaired driving:

Have plenty of food and nonalcoholic beverages available.

Stop serving alcohol at least an hour before the end of the party.

Use smaller serving cups to keep alcoholic beverages to the appropriate size.

Plan activities and games that do not involve alcohol to reduce consumption.

Don’t be afraid to take someone’s keys if they’ve had to much to drink.
