“Central Europe – At Turbulent and Magical Crossroads – From the Past to the Present” with Frank Fritensky from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at DurangoSpace, 1221 Main Ave. This class will be held for three consecutive Wednesdays.
“Fruit and Vegetable Carving” with Chef Safari from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 13 at Manna Soup Kitchen’s teaching kitchen, 1100 Avenida Del Sol.

Pine River Library announces events
The Pine River Library announces these events:
David Feela and John Christian Hopkins will host a literary “comedy night” at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The free, basic avalanche awareness program “Know Before You Go” will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Participants will learn about why and how avalanches occur. This program will feature guest speaker Jeff Davis, Colorado Avalanche Information Center backcountry avalanche forecaster for the San Juans Mountains.
Wendy Rice of the La Plata Extension Office will lead a financial wellness class at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. The class will act as a “financial checkup,” helping participants organize their financial information and begin the key steps toward financial wellness.

Fat bike demos set for Saturday, Sunday
Mountain Bike Specialists and the Specialized Demo Truck will offer fat bike demos Saturday in Silverton at the Silverton Whiteout.
To demo a fat bike in Silverton at no charge, participants must bring their ID and credit card.
On Sunday, Mountain Bike Specialists will offer free fat bike demos at its shop, 949 Main Ave.
Participants should come at 9 a.m. for their bike. From 10 to 11:30 a.m. a group ride will take place. From noon to 2:30 p.m. the Open Fat Bike Demo will be held.
People who cannot attend Sunday can call the shop to demo a bike at a scheduled time.

You can play golf Saturday in Silverton
The Silverton Snowscape Golf Tournament will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Yeti Dunes Executive 9.
The entry fee is $10 per team. The format is a two-person scramble. To enter, participants have to arrive at the train depot before 11 a.m.
Snowmobiles are recommended but not required. Bright yellow or orange balls are also recommended.
