The Knights of Columbus Council No. 1408 will host a Lenten Fish Fry in the Sacred Heart Parish Hall from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, 254 East Fifth Ave. Baked and fried fish, breaded and battered, French fries, coleslaw, dessert and drinks will be served.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 6-12 and children 5 and younger are free.
Day to try hockey to be held Saturday
Try Hockey for Free Day will take place from 9:20 to 10:20 a.m. Saturday at Chapman Hill Ice Rink & Ski Area
Kids ages 9 and younger can try hockey gear and skate with Durango’s Youth Hockey coaches and players who will give tips and pointers on how to skate and play hockey. Hockey jerseys and goodie bags will be given to the first 40 participants.

Backcountry Film Festival to be held
The fourth annual showing of the Backcountry Film Festival as part of the Winter Wildlands Alliance will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Durango Arts Center, 802 East Second Avenue.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at door and can be purchased in advance at Maria’s Bookshop and Backcountry Experience, or online at www.durangonaturestudies.org for a 2 percent surcharge.
The festival helps Winter Wildlands’ member groups raise money to promote human-powered winter recreation, including backcountry skiing and snowshoeing.
The films to be shown are: “The Weight of Water Ben,” “I Love Splitboarding,” “Shifting Ice,” “The Forecaster,” “55 Hours in Mexico,” “Always Above Us,” “Connections” and “Shared Lines.”
Bands to support Stillwater Music
Seven local bands and DJs will combine Friday and Saturday at the Balcony Bar and Grill Backstage, 600 Main Ave., as a benefit to support Stillwater Music, a local nonprofit organization. The show on Friday will start at 7 p.m. with DJ MATEO, followed by OBLEE at 8 p.m. and Sky Pilot 11 p.m. Saturday’s show will start at 7 p.m. with DJ MATEO followed by the Smokey Blues of the Jade Robbins Project, the Stillwater Groove Casters and the Durango Funk Allstars. Tickets are $5 per night and can be purchased in advance at Katzin Music, Southwest Sound, Stillwater Music or at the door. All proceeds will go toward supporting and expanding the programs of Stillwater Music.
