Continuing its Free Information Series designed to help co-op members understand the new lighting technology and save energy, La Plata Electric Association will host an updated “Lunch & Lights” workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at LPEA’s Durango headquarters, 45 Stewart St. (Bodo Park).

All those interested in learning more about LED (light-emitting diode) lamps and more are invited to attend. Lunch will be served.

Free Salsa classes begin in March

Starting March 3 at 6 p.m., Pine River Library is offering a series of free beginning salsa classes.

In this four-week class, local salsero Kennie Monger will teach participants all the basics of this infectious dance form. The series of classes is limited to 20 participants. Sign up is open to all; no partner necessary.

Durango Voice tickets available now

Manna Soup Kitchen announces that tickets are now on sale for their Durango Voice fundraiser, which is similar to the popular TV show, “The Voice.” Local singers have been auditioning to participate.

The preliminary show will be at 7 p.m. March 4 at the Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave. Pre-selected contestants will sing in hopes of being chosen by a professional voice coach.

After a month of coaching, contestants will compete again at 7 p.m. on April 2 at the Strater. Contestants will win free professional coaching, prizes and singing engagements at establishments in Durango.

Moonlight Snowshoe Ski event canceled

Due to the recent warm temperatures and melting snow conditions, Mesa Verde National Park is canceling the Feb. 20 Moonlight Snowshoe and Ski event.

With little to no snow in the forecast, conditions are not expected to be favorable for this event.

Memorial Walk set for Saturday in Ignacio

Healing Spirits, an aftercare group from the Peaceful Spirit Treatment Center, invites everyone to a Memorial Walk in Honor of Loved Ones Lost to Drugs and Alcohol at 10 a.m., on Saturday.

Breen to hold community potluck

The Breen Community Building Association will hold an Evening of Fun, History and a Potluck Dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Breen Community Building, 15300 La Plata Highway (Colorado Highway 140) in Hesperus.

Longtime residents will share some history about the town of Breen and the building. People who have a story to share are invited to come and to tell it. Participants should bring a potluck dish.
