‘Running the Sahara’ to play in Mancos

A free screening of “Running the Sahara” will be presented as part of the series “Life Is An Adventure” at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Mancos Public Library, 211 East First St., Mancos.

The feature documentary chronicles the attempt of three ultra-marathoners to run across Africa’s Sahara Desert.

Chimney Rock group announces events

Chimney Rock Interpretive Association announces these events:

The group will host a presentation by author Rick Stinchfield about the rock art of Utah and the Fremont culture at 7 p.m. Thursday in Ecoluxe Building at The Springs Resort and Spa, 165 Hot Springs Blvd., Pagosa Springs.

Stinchfield will discuss the difference between the Freemont culture and the ancestral Puebloans and give an overview of the rock art at Barrier Canyon and Fremont Canyon, which are near Capitol Reef. The lecture is free.

The public is invited to join a potluck before the lecture at 6 p.m. Participants should bring finger foods to share. Volunteers will provide more information about the nonprofit organization, which operates the interpretive program at Chimney Rock National Monument in partnership with the Forest Service.

The association will hold the Chimney Rock Open House from 6 to 8 p.m. March 18 at the EcoLuxe Building at The Springs Resort and Spa, 165 Hot Springs Blvd., Pagosa Springs.

Experienced volunteers will introduce guests to the variety of roles that support the association.

Volunteer training days will take place April 15-16 in Pagosa Springs.
