However, we are not considering Bobby Lieb for public office based on his family’s charity. We should judge the candidate based on his record.
As a county commissioner, Lieb, along with then-Commissioner Kellie Hotter, failed to prevent a small cabal of conspiracy theorists from derailing the La Plata County Comprehensive Plan – a planning document that had been developed over several years. The comp plan cost the county around $700,000 in development fees and staff costs. Following up this debacle, Lieb voted, again with Hotter, to shelve a climate action plan for the county that cost $50,000.
I ask simply this: Is Lieb, having wasted three quarters of a million dollars of public cash, worthy of being rewarded with a plush job as county treasurer? This especially in light having no accounting degree?
The answer is quite obvious: an emphatic No. Lieb is ill-suited for any public service, having proved himself a science-denying ideologue, a wasteful steward of the public purse and completely incapable of planning for the future needs of the county.
Trust does indeed matter, and Bobby Lieb has proved himself untrustworthy. Vote Allison Morrissey for county treasurer.
