In this horrid year of the Plague, we were heartened to see the City Council call the right shot on masks and social distancing. To us this is not a matter of politics, but of common sense and, sorry to remind y’all, life and death.
But calling the right shot and making sure local businesses enforce it seem to be worlds apart.
As the summer hordes from infection centers bring in more and more of the dread virus, many local businesses are ignoring the City Council’s directive and are packing in the unmasked multitude. As elsewhere, it seems, legislation without enforcement is but an empty gesture.
Now, we realize we may be a quaint minority, strictly local, not all that enamored with the frantic seasonal crowds. But we do considerable business it this town, business we would like to think is still welcome.
