Republicans seemed concerned about their electability in the wake of Donald Trump’s increasing unpopularity. But don’t worry – Democrats can still snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in 2028.

After the release of the 2024 “autopsy,” Democrats still cannot fathom what many voters saw as the essential problem: Kamala Harris was a weak candidate with an unpopular message. After Joe Biden’s obvious unfitness was demonstrated during the debate, he effectively appointed Harris as the nominee – apparently without much need for voters or a contested convention.

Biden was widely unpopular, yet Harris said she “wouldn’t change a thing.” Immigration was a top issue, but Harris struggled to argue for stronger enforcement against immigrants convicted of crimes. Democrats can support transgender people without promoting transgender female athletes in women’s sports or taxpayer-funded gender-transition surgeries for federal prisoners.

Harris had few notable accomplishments as vice president, and her repetitive “unburdened by what has been” speeches often sounded empty. Why would swing-state voters support one of the Senate’s most liberal former members?

Democrats should think outside the box in 2028 and give voters what they want instead of what activists demand.

The fecklessness of Democratic leadership in 2024 helped leave the United States in the hands of a narcissistic criminal who attempted to overturn an election, monetized the presidency, damaged relationships with allies, befriended war criminal Vladimir Putin and launched a war in Iran.

Was it worth it?
