Perhaps the gentleman who suggested that this was the case (Herald, Jan. 24) feels that because there are more students expressing their desire to be nonheterosexual, this is caused by school policies. A simpler explanation is that given a supportive, loving and accepting environment, students feel willing to risk being themselves.
I believe that we all want the best for our children and our neighbors. I don’t think any of us want to destroy traditions, religions or social institutions, so let’s try to support, rather than destroy, our school system.
