Jason Austin, 9-R schools, will describe Amendment 66, Funding for Public Schools and Ballot Question 3A on reducing the size of the 9-R board of directors. I will summarize Proposition AA, Retail Marijuana Taxes.
Kathy Morris, member of the Durango Fire & Rescue Authority Board, will explain the two DFRA-related issues: Animas and Hermosa FPDs’ Question 4B and the city of Durango Question 2A.
Two city councilors will cover Durango’s Question 2B, the Plastic Bag Fee Repeal: Dean Brookie supporting the bag fee, and Keith Brant opposing it.
Explanations and analyses of the two state issues can be found in the 2013 State Ballot Information Booklet (the “blue book”) that every registered voter received. The local issues involving tax increases are discussed in the notice of election mailed to all registered county voters.
The LWV Ballot Issue forum is a good source for ballot issue information. Attend or watch the forum and check the LWV table in the foyer of Durango Public Library for nonpartisan election information.
