At 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, there will be a forum for Bayfield School Board candidates at Bayfield Town Hall, 1199 Bayfield Parkway. The public will be able to meet and ask questions of the three candidates for two seats.
At 5:30 p.m. Oct. 19, there will be a forum in Durango City Council Chambers, 949 East Second Ave., about the Durango School District 9-R School Board election and a discussion of the city ballot issue to raise taxes for the Durango Fire Protection District.
There are three seats open on the school board, but only one of them is contested, District E. The three candidates for this seat are Shere Kuss Byrd, Cara-Lyn Lappen and Emily Newcomer. They will answer audience questions. The candidates for the two uncontested seats, Nancy Stubbs, District A, and Mick Souder, District C, have been invited.
At 5:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave., Carol Hedges of the Colorado Fiscal Institute will give a presentation called “Understanding the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights and the Gallagher Amendment: Why Should We Care?” Hedges is the executive director of the institute and has been deeply involved in the research, policy and advocacy community in Colorado for more that 15 years.
