Many in Colorado’s 3rd District are trying to understand what just happened and, more importantly, why.
A campaign with real momentum stepped aside at a critical moment. That doesn’t happen without serious concerns behind the scenes. Voters deserve clarity.
We are hearing that Congressman Jeff Hurd signaled two options if Hope Scheppelman won the primary: resign after the primary election, or vote against the America First agenda for the seven months before she could be sworn in. If that is accurate, it raises a serious question: why would a Republican threaten to leverage his position in a way that could stall the very agenda he was elected to support?
The reality in Washington is simple. The House majority is razor thin. Just one or two votes can determine whether policies move forward or fail. That affects real issues here at home: energy, public lands, affordability, and jobs across Western and Southern Colorado.
No voter in this district sent someone to Congress to create uncertainty or hold leverage over the direction of the country.
Congressman Hurd now has an opportunity to demonstrate where he stands. Will he fully support President Trump’s America First agenda and the people of this district, or continue down a path that raises serious concerns?
Colorado deserves steady leadership, not uncertainty.
