The ban is due to insurance regulations, said Rob Dean, the school’s director of activities and facilities.
“I don’t like this,” Dean said. “It stinks.”
But unfortunatly, we live in a litigious society, he said. When the wind blew a soccer goal on another team’s player warming up for a game a few years ago, the district had to cover expenses for a broken back and other injuries, Dean said.
Last year, he began asking kids to play their games on the school’s practice field, but insurance company representatives said that was a liability, too. The area where kids used to play ball probably will be fenced off in the future, Dean said.
