The availability of lodging for guests and tourists is of great concern for our economic health, but I believe that we may be setting a precedent in approving the construction of the large/tall hotel on East Second Avenue. The approval of the variance for exceeding the height code of 55 feet is a precedent that we may regret. The next request for a variance in this code may be much higher. Do we really want high-rise buildings in the historic district? I think not.
