We recommend a YES vote on the following:

Amendment 69 – statewide health care system (ColoradoCare) to establish a universal health care system for all Colorado citizens including no premiums, no deductibles and no co-pays.

Amendment 70 – state minimum wage to increase from $8.31 to $9.30 per hour beginning 2017 until $12 per hour in 2020.

Amendment 72 – increase cigarette and tobacco tax from 84 cents to $2.59 per pack, to be distributed for tobacco prevention and health-related programs.

Proposition 106 – access to medical aid-in-dying to allow terminally ill with prognosis of six month or less to voluntarily end their life.

County Amendment 1A – road and bridge mill levy increase $4.5 million to fund county road and bridge construction with proviso that all such funds are dedicated to road and bridge infrastructure.

County Ballot Issue 3A – $1.7 million for the 9R School District to maintain programs that support college and workforce ready graduates.

County Ballot Issue 3B – $28 million for Bayfield School District to replace a 100-year-old school building and upgrade of other school facilities.

The La Plata County Green Party recommends a NO vote on the following:

Amendment 71 – aka Raise the Bar – “make it more difficult to amend the Constitution” by increase signature gathering to two percent from EACH state senate district and require Amendment passage of 55 percent of registered voters rather than current majority vote.

Proposition 107 – presidential primary elections “proposes to establish a presidential primary which would be ‘winner take all’ in Colorado thereby eliminating a presidential caucus.”

County Amendment 1B – new airport terminal mill levy would increase $40 million (repayment cost $64 million) to fund a new terminal and improvements. The need has not been adequately documented.

Since FAA funds are speculative, a new airport is not a community-wide priority and other more pressing county needs exist, like a daycare center.
