For folks who don’t have the money to buy Thanksgiving dinner this year, the Bayfield Lions Club and several local families and businesses have stepped in to offer help by the basketload.
On Monday, club members distributed 16 laundry baskets with complete dinners, even providing a turkey roaster pan and potholders.
The baskets contained a turkey, rolls, butter, green beans, stuffing, and lots more.
Danica Frost, a member of the club, oversaw the collection and basket stuffing. She said lots of donations made the project a reality. Donors include Nicole Fischer, Aimee Whitmer, Rebecca Mars, Cindy Hemphill, Amber Pedigo, Kelly Gabbard, Maggie Reed, Penny McNew, Dixie Moore, Sarah Dombrowski, Erin Youngblood and Evenings Porch Assisted Living, Julianne Frederick, Michelle Platt, Dana Blaser, Shiann Swapp, Deb Walker, Brian and Debbie Wilhelm, Shawn and Lindsay White, Karen Howlett, Doris Gordon, Deanna and Ryan Farmer, Robin Snooks, Stephen and Linsdey Scales, Madonna Funkhouser, Ashleigh Tarkington, the Dunavants, Pam Orr, Pancho Dudley, Raw Synergy, Dawn Calahan, Pam Rakes and the Billy Goat Saloon.
The club is now collecting change in jars around town to buy goodies for the annual visits from Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. The club’s next meeting is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Lions Hall in downtown Bayfield. Anyone interested in learning more about the club and its activities is invited to attend.
