Sgt. Adrian O’Haver, with the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, helps Riley Mallett, 11, try on a patrol vest and hold a shield on Saturday during First Responders Appreciation Day, a fundraiser for the Hundred Club of Durango hosted by the Durango Harley-Davidson dealership. Within 72 hours of the death of a public safety officer on duty in La Plata County, the Hundred Club sends surviving family members a substantial contribution to provide for their immediate financial needs, according to its website. Trevor Bird, owner of Durango Harley-Davidson, said, “We started this event back in 2017. Then because of COVID, we had to take a break, and we felt we needed to bring it back. It’s a good way to say thank you.” Southern Ute Police Department, Durango Fire Protection District, Durango Police Department and Colorado State Patrol also participated in the event.
