Margaret Turnell, is all smiles as she greets longtime friend Bill Armstrong on Saturday as she celebrates her 100th birthday at the Durango Veterans of Foreign Wars post. More than 200 people showed up to celebrate the day with her from several different states. Turnell, a longtime Durango resident, started working at the Durango Woolworth store in 1950, retiring in 1995. Her daughter-in-law, Billie Turnell, said Margaret, whose birthday was April 14, still shovels a little snow, quilts, bakes, cans, walks around her neighborhood, looks after her neighbors, is still active in church, has a few aches and pains but she doesn’t let it bother her, and has never met a stranger.
