I am running against Kohler McInnis who is seeking his second three-year term. Let me explain why.

Mr. McInnis also sits on the board of Tri-State Generation and Transmission. LPEA currently is required to buy 95 percent of its electricity from Tri-State for the next 32 years, until 2050. Last spring, the LPEA board unanimously requested 5 percent more energy independence from Tri-State.

But at the Tri-State board meeting in July, Mr. McInnis voted against LPEA in favor of Tri-State’s bottom line.

More than 75 percent of La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) customers don’t bother to vote for LPEA’s board members. Don’t let that be you. Not this year. Too much is at stake. The energy industry is advancing faster than we can report accurately.

We need leaders who will stand up for LPEA in this inevitable shift. I promise to represent you and work for reliable power and lower rates and a smart future. Look for your ballot in the mail on April 18 and vote for me, Jeff Mannix.
