By the way, there are no workers to bag your groceries in France; you do it yourself. Whether this no-bag custom is by government edict or coordinated grocery chain policy, I don’t know. It doesn’t matter much, does it? But here we want to raise the specter of expanding “government control” on this issue.

Get serious, people. In France, they just do it, and nothing is said. And, oh, by the way, you never see plastic grocery bags along the highways in France. I wonder why.

Using the “government-control” sound bite on the bag-law issue seems a little knee-jerk silly to me. Turns out the French got it right on Iraq after all. They’ve also got it right on the teeny-weeny grocery bag.
