The second game of a tough three-game road trip wasn’t kind to the Fort Lewis College football team.
Colorado Mines scored at will in a 41-7 home win against the Skyhawks in Golden. The Orediggers totaled 308 yards rushing while holding the Skyhawks to 70 and held a 34-0 lead before FLC scored its lone touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
FLC fell to 1-4 overall and in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with the loss. The win sent the Orediggers to 3-2.
Colorado Mines quarterback Ben Bottlinger went 14-of-22 passing for 130 yards and one touchdown to Brody Oliver, who had seven catches for 67 yards.
Orediggers running back Cameron Mayberry ran for 122 yards and one TD on 13 carries. Bottlinger added 85 rush yards and a TD, and Cody Limmer broke a 58-yard TD run.
FLC quarterback Bo Coleman was held to 14-of-21 passing with one TD and an interception. He was sacked three times and ran for a net of one yard. His touchdown was a 24-yard completion to tight end AJ Shaw.
Elijah Huff led the Skyhawks in rushing with 35 yards on three carries. Tyler Telphy ran for 20 yards on 11 carries in his second consecutive start since senior PJ Hall went down with an ankle injury.
Donell Pleasant III made his third interception of the season for FLC and led the team with 11 tackles. Dean Wenger had a fumble recovery for the Orediggers, and Clayton Lauderdale intercepted Coleman once.
Next up for the Skyhawks is a noon Saturday game at Western State in Gunnison. The Cowboys are 0-5 and the lone winless team in the RMAC.
