Niko Mestas, 10, son of Brian and Nickie Mestas of Durango, secured the final out of the Durango 10U All Stars’ 14-7 win over Monument on Saturday in Aurora, the third round of the Colorado State Little League Championship Tournament. Mestas and the 10-and-under All-Stars went 2-2 at the tournament before losing in the semifinals. The 12-and-under All-Stars also played in Denver over the weekend, and their older version, the 14-and-under All-Stars, followed up their districts’ victory last weekend in Durango with a state championship this weekend in Granby. Durango defeated Grand Mesa 7-3 on Sunday to win the state title.
