Trump is promoting his “Save America Act” and demanding an end to what he calls rigged elections, including mail-in voting. He claims the U.S. is the only country that allows it.
He is wrong. At least 38 countries allow mail-in voting, including: Argentina, France, Lithuania, Singapore, Australia, Germany, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Austria, Greece, Malaysia, Slovenia, Belgium, Iceland, the Netherlands, South Korea, Canada, Brazil, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain, Israel, Norway, Sweden, Chile, Italy, Pakistan, Switzerland, Denmark, Japan, Poland, the U.K., Estonia, Latvia, Portugal, Finland, Liechtenstein and Zimbabwe – and it has not been found to be rife with fraud.
Regarding the need for voter ID and proof of citizenship, the conservative Heritage Foundation’s research finds that from 1999 to 2023, over 1 billion ballots were cast and there were 77 cases of noncitizens voting and 10 cases of undocumented immigrants voting. That is 0.00000764% of all votes cast – not what most people would call a crisis requiring emergency legislation.
Trump apparently believes that saying something makes it true. He uses this same tactic many times a day (and often in the middle of the night). On the matter of massive voter fraud, he is either misinformed or he is lying.
