The pentathlon drew athletes from South and Central America and the United States.

Millett, 16, who will be a senior at DHS in the fall, also took the gold medal in the mixed relays. His partner was Naomi Ross from Denver.

The pentathlon involves fencing, swimming, running/shooting and horseback riding. Competitors younger than 18 years old don’t participate in equestrian events.

Millet’s next stop is the national championship competition scheduled June 21-24 at the Olympic Training Center.

If he should place in the national competition, Millet could qualify for the world pentathlon championships to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in September.
