The Durango Swim Club’s distance star started her summer session by winning the 500-, 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyle events at the Sopris IMX Challenge on May 16-17 in Glenwood Springs.
She also finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke.
Eight other DSC swimmers joined Benjamin in Glenwood.
Jessica Bowman was 18th in the 100-yard butterfly and 25th in the 500-yard freestyle, dropping time in both events, DSC head coach Suzanne Schieltz said in an email to The Durango Herald.
Abby Bowman, her younger sister, finished third in the 200-yard freestyle and sixth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Quinn Schmidt took second in the 500-yard freestyle, fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke, third in the 100-yard freestyle and first in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 1,650-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley for her age group.
McKenzie Rion was seventh in the 50-yard breaststroke, fifth in the 100-yard individual medley, fifth in the 50-yard backstroke and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.
Angela McManus finished second in the 50-yard backstroke, fourth in the 50-yard breaststroke, sixth in the 50-yard freestyle, fourth in the 200-yard individual medley, fourth in the 100-yard freestyle, fourth in the 50-yard butterfly and fifth in the 200-yard IM.
The season will continue in two locations Friday.
Fifteen swimmers will travel to Cortez for a meet, while six will head to Albuquerque for the Lobo Inivtational.
