The Durango Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 25.

According to a Tuesday Facebook post on the department’s page, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 25 at the Durango police station, at 990 East Second Ave., and the Durango Police substation, at 545 Wilson Gulch Drive.

Residents are invited to bring any unwanted and unused prescription medications, as well as non-spoiled canned goods and hygiene products.

“Unused or expired medications can fall into the wrong hands or harm our environment if they are not disposed of properly,” the post said.

The event is a good way to dispose of drugs safely, the post said.

“National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is a safe, anonymous way to turn in unwanted medications and help keep our community safe,” the post said.
